Protecting Free Play Supply

As you know Free Players make up a sizeable percentage of the WWII Online game population, upwards to around 30% or so. A while back we made a key decision to give everyone Free Play access (including active paid subscribers) because, for us, that was the easiest thing to do.

For the most part, good results have come from this, including veteran players being able to hop back into the game and see what the latest updates have, to check in with their squad mates, or if finances get hit, the option to play and continue to be part of our community. These are all GREAT things.

What hasn't been great, is that we've allocated supply for Free Players to use to retain their experience, and it gets heavily consumed by active premium players. This has also made supply management a bit harsh on our Game Management team, and there's been a large call from veteran players to reduce overall tank supply because of it.

Shown here is the updated model of the British 2 Pounder, which Free Play & Premium can access.

As of today, we've pulled Free Play access from our active premium subscribers to protect genuine Free Players experience. This coupled with our 2 week "all access trial" being removed this last summer, our need to put more emphasis on the Free Player experience is key.

Premium players continue to have the lion's share of equipment and no supply levels have been modified. But Free Players are important to the game and we need to ensure that they can do their part and have a fair opportunity to use supply, so they continue to stay and play.

We are also actively working on some back-end voodoo which will allow an interchange like this:

  • If active premium, deactivate free play.

  • If inactive premium, active free play.

The goal is to autonomously protect that supply and protect our players as they move around subscriptions based on their conditions or desires.

CRS is always looking to refine and improve your experience, and want to encourage you to use this opportunity to bring more players into the fold. If you're a Free Player we hope this is well received and you spend some more time ingame.
